What's the difference between Ergod and Claude Code Channels?

Claude Code Channels require a local Claude Code session running on your machine and a Claude.ai login tied to one provider. How is Ergod different from OpenClaw?

Which AI models does Ergod use?

Today, every tier runs on a single high-capacity hosted model. Premium model choice — Claude, GPT, Gemini, and OpenRouter — is the top Pro roadmap item and is rolling out. Free will stay on the standard hosted model.

Can Ergod write Python, JavaScript, and other languages?

Yes. Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML/CSS, Go, Rust — any language a coding agent can handle. Ergod also runs the code in a sandboxed per-user workspace and sends the results back to Discord.

Do I need to know how to code to use Ergod?

No. Describe what you want in plain English — "Build me a portfolio site" or "Write a script that tracks crypto prices" — and Ergod writes and runs the code for you.

Can I invite other Discord users to my workspace?

Yes, on Pro. Use /collab add to grant a specific Discord user read/write access to your workspace, and they switch in with /workspace switch. Collaborators don't inherit your GitHub push credentials — their git auth fails cleanly unless they link their own account. Remove them with /collab remove and their view of the workspace is cleared automatically.

Can my whole team share one workspace in a channel?

Yes — that's a channel session, which is different from /collab. An admin opens a shared session in a channel with /ergod-config channel-session open and nominates a Pro user to sponsor it; the sponsor accepts via an Accept / Decline prompt. Everyone in the channel then reads and writes the same workspace together — no per-user collab invites needed. Sessions renew every 90 days, and if the sponsor drops to the free tier the channel session auto-freezes until a new sponsor accepts.

Can I plug in my own tools?

Yes. Ergod speaks Model Context Protocol (MCP). Use /mcp add for remote streamable-HTTP servers, or /mcp add-stdio for stdio servers that run inside your sandbox container — Ergod offers a one-click install for common launchers like npx and uvx. Tools surface as Ergod tool calls automatically; no glue code, no per-server slash commands. MCP is on by default for new tenants and you can toggle individual servers or the whole feature with /mcp on|off|enable|disable.

What happens to my sessions if the bot restarts?

Sessions persist across bot restarts and are isolated to your user. /session list shows everything you've saved; /session new saves the current conversation and starts a fresh one. Workspaces are per-user Docker containers, so your files and history aren't visible to anyone else in the same server.

Can I use my own GitHub account for commits?

Yes. Run /github link with a Personal Access Token and Ergod will commit, push, and open PRs as your GitHub user. Tokens are validated against GitHub and stored encrypted at rest. The token never touches the container filesystem — git reads it from an ephemeral credential helper, scoped to your turn only. /github unlink removes the token immediately.

I don't really use Discord — is this for me?

You'll need a free Discord account to use Ergod (it's the front door). Once you're in our public server, you can start chatting with the bot in 30 seconds. No downloads, no extra accounts.

What can I actually use this for?

Anything you can describe and would normally write code for: a landing page for your business, a script that renames files, a Discord bot, a tip calculator, a small game, a research summary, a script to crunch a CSV. If it would take a developer an afternoon, Ergod can take a swing at it in minutes.

Why not just use ChatGPT or Claude directly?

Those return code snippets in a chat. Ergod actually runs them in your own sandboxed workspace, fixes its own errors, and ships finished files back to your server — and it lives where your community already is.
